Special Education Paraprofessional (2 Positions)
Daisy Elementary(1) / Westbrook High School(1)
Hours: 6.25 hours per day; 31.25 hours per day
The purpose of a paraeducator is to provide instructional support under the direct supervision of certified staff. The paraeducator provides support to students and assists the teacher in implementing instructional programs, managing classroom activities, and ensuring a positive and productive learning environment. They work closely with students, both individually and in small groups, and support a diverse range of students within the classroom to be successful.
Qualifications:
Associate’s degree or passing score on ParaPro test
Preferred experience working with students
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direction of certified personnel:
Provide assistance to students under the supervision of a special education teacher/case manager.
Ability to work with special education students in a classroom setting.
Ability to follow teachers and related staff instructions regarding work modifications, accommodations, and/or behavior plans.
Assist in implementing individualized, instructional, and/or behavioral programs as outlined in a student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and under the supervision of certified teacher(s).
Create and select appropriate formal and informal evaluation instruments or procedures to obtain information for interpreting a student’s current level of performance and for monitoring student progress.
Accurately interpret all information to describe the student’s current level of academic performance. Develop a report to share with the family.
Strong behavior management skills.
Ability to present material in a clear and effective manner.
Ability to help organize content area information.
Ability to consistently implement instructional and behavioral programs.
Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students/staff.
Works effectively independently or with an instructional team to implement programs designed to promote student growth and development.
Ability to communicate clearly in oral and written form.
Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
Ability to follow directions and apply common sense during all aspects of the day.
Attend work on a consistent basis.
Attend scheduled professional development as required.
Remains student-focused, maintaining a caring, safe, developmentally appropriate environment.
Works with students independently or in small groups to reinforce material taught by the teacher and foster skills while encouraging independence.
Establishes a supportive professional relationship with the student(s).
Assist with toileting, feeding or other health responsibilities, when appropriate to the assignment.
Assist with loading or unloading of students into vans, buses, taxis, etc.
Apply and support the usage of Safety Cares strategies for safety concerns that arise.
Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, school grounds, cafeteria, and restrooms.
Supervise students on-site at vocational programs or other off-campus programs as required.
Performs other delegated responsibilities as assigned by the teacher or administrator.
Hourly Rate: $19.58
