POSITION SUMMARY:
New Haven Public School Social Workers address the psychological and social well-being of students, ranging from elementary school to high school students and beyond. They provide information, counseling, and support to students, parents, and school staff by working collaboratively to problem solve.
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Integrated intervention efforts that emphasize primary prevention
    Early screening and intervention: Observations, collaboration with school staff, Parental Contact
    Approaches to intervention that target multiple risk factors in home, school, and community settings and involve parents, teachers, and administrators
    Counseling services to IEP and regular education students
    Crisis intervention
    Development of IEP: Goals, objectives, present levels
    Participant at PPT meetings
    Collaboration with community agencies
    Support to parents/guardians
    Medicaid Billing
    Support to Culture and Climate as a member of such school-wide systems: PBIS, SSST, SPMT, Restorative Practices facilitator
    Approaches that seek to improve individual and system factors contributing to academic success: Collaboration and planning with teachers and other related school staff members
    Classroom Lessons: Second Step, Social Skills, Mindfulness, etc.
    Staff Presentations: DCF training, SEL, IDEA-related topics, etc.
    Develops and Facilitates Social Skills Groups: self-esteem, anger management, executive functioning skills, etc.
    Works closely with building administrators: Leadership team member, crisis team leader, etc.
    Conducting Evaluation: Initials, Re-evaluations, Annuals, FBA’s and BIP’s
    Data-informed decision-making and intervention fidelity
    Have the knowledge of and comply with local, state, and federal mandates related to informed consent, privacy and confidentiality, and access to records within the context of legal and ethical rights of minors and parents.

CERTIFICATION / ENDORSEMENT REQUIREMENTS:
Masters Degree in Social Work, Connecticut Certification in Social Work (071)

SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  10 Month work year. Local 933, New Haven Federation of Teachers

Salary contingent on degree and years of experience:
$49,283 - $102,797
