Job Summary:
Derby High School is seeking a qualified and compassionate Long-Term Substitute Social Worker to support students at the high school level. The candidate will provide social-emotional support and crisis intervention while collaborating with educators, families, and community resources to promote student success.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide individual and group counseling to students addressing social-emotional and behavioral needs.
Support students in crisis situations, including risk assessments and intervention planning.
Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other support staff to create a positive school climate.
Assist with functional behavior assessments (FBAs), and behavior intervention plans (BIPs).
Participate in 504 and Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings as needed.
Connect students and families with community resources to support academic and emotional well-being.
Maintain accurate and confidential records in compliance with district policies and legal requirements.
Provide consultation to staff on mental health, trauma-informed practices, and social-emotional learning strategies.
Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited program.
Valid state certification/license as a School Social Worker (or ability to obtain one).
Experience working with high school students, preferably in an educational setting.
Strong knowledge of mental health supports and crisis intervention.
Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and diverse student populations.
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with special education processes and laws.
Knowledge of trauma-informed care and restorative practices.
Familiarity with community resources and support networks.
