Job Description:
.5 FTE Special Education Paraprofessional
Clintonville Elementary School
Role:
Assist special education teachers and providers with maintaining effective instructional programs for
students with disabilities under the guidance of their Individualized Education Program (IEP).
Qualifications:
1. High school diploma or equivalent, post-secondary coursework preferred.
2. Previous successful experience working with children with disabilities.
3. Experience using technology and programs i.e. Google, assistive technology, adaptive
communication devices, iPads, etc.
4. Read and understand the basic elements of an IEP, schedules, and other support plans.
5. Initiate and assist students with communication, sensory, learning, and behavioral challenges.
6. Collect behavioral, academic, social, and communication data using charts, graphs, or tables.
7. Implement proactive behavior strategies.
8. Provide learner independence and understand the impact of fading and prompting techniques.
9. Initiate and reinforce individual learning strategies across a variety of settings, including the
general education classroom.
10. Flexibility with reasonable assignment changes dependent on student needs.
11. Effectively communicate with teachers and other service providers as a team member.
12. Personal management training or willingness to be trained in and use appropriate de-escalation
and physical restraint techniques.
13. Flexibility and can-do attitude.
Range of Possible Duties:
Ability to carry out the above-stated qualifications.
Job duties may vary depending on assignment and can range from 1:1 support to small groups.
Individuals may be reassigned, as necessary.
Job duties may include:
1. Self-care activities, including toileting and hygiene.
2. Behavior management.
3. Lifting of individuals.
