Job Description:

Special Education Teacher - STRIVE PROGRAM

The Southern Transition Real-World and Independent Education (STRIVE) Program in Clinton, CT, is  seeking a certified Special Education Teacher to join its team. Operated by the Capitol Region  Education Council (CREC) in partnership with the Clinton, Guilford, and Madison Public Schools, the  STRIVE program empowers students ages 18-22 with developmental disabilities to achieve greater independence, develop employment skills, and engage in their communities.

Position Summary

This position involves providing a combination of classroom-based instruction, community-based  activities, and vocational experiences designed to meet the transition goals of students. The teacher will support students with developmental disabilities as they prepare for independent living, employment, and community integration.

Key Responsibilities
•  Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in collaboration with partner   districts.
•  Provide differentiated instruction tailored to students' academic, vocational, and social-emotional needs.
•  Plan and facilitate community-based and vocational learning opportunities to meet transition goals.
•  Supervise and guide paraeducators and job coaches in supporting student activities.
•  Collaborate with families, agencies, and employers to create meaningful student opportunities.
•  Evaluate, assess, monitor, and document student progress and program outcomes.
•  Support and deliver instruction during the Extended School Year (ESY) program

Qualifications:

•  CT State Department of Education certification in Special Education.
•  Strong understanding of secondary transition planning and working with students with developmental disabilities.
•  Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in special education preferred.
•  Experience working with students ages 18-22 or adults with disabilities is highly desirable.
•  Proven ability to design and deliver specialized instruction in alignment with the Connecticut Core Standards.
•  Excellent organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.

Desired Attributes

•  Demonstrated ability to adapt teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of students.
•  Familiarity with federal and state regulations regarding education and transitions for students with disabilities.
•  Experience in managing and mentoring support staff.
•  Ability to maintain effective communication with stakeholders, including families and community 
  partners.

Schedule and Commitment

•  School Year Program: Full-time position following the academic calendar.
•  Summer Program (ESY): Opportunity to work in a shorter-term program during July, with hours from 7:45 AM-11:45 AM, Monday through Friday.
