Job Description:
School to Work Program
WORK YEAR
Anticipated is 6.5 hours per day, 181 days per year
Prepares students for their upcoming participation at work/community/recreational sites by describing the job responsibilities, providing opportunities to research the site on the computer, or completing other activities utilizing materials appropriate to the student’s skill level.
Accompanies students to and from work/community/recreational sites
Helps the student identify important landmarks within the site so the student can become as independent as possible in accessing the building (i.e. entryway, offices, bathrooms, corridors, etc.)
Provides on-site training to students, in consultation with employer or supervisor
Monitors students’ performance at sites
Helps students develop site-related skills that facilitate greater student independence
Provides daily reports of student progress at sites to the Transition Coordinator
Consults regularly with the Transition Coordinator for planning purposes
Provides the student with opportunities to practice their site-related skills in the Life Skills classroom
Provides re-teaching, repetition, and reminders (in the classroom and sites) as needed
Helps student reflect on their site performance, and identify ways to improve it or expand their role (as appropriate)
Helps students expand their knowledge of the site by accessing the computer and printed materials, videos, etc. according to skill level.
Provides students with general job-seeking skills (e.g. filling out applications, mock interviews, developing a work portfolio, etc.) in the Life Skills classroom under the direction of the Transition Coordinator
QUALIFICATIONS
previous experience with students with disabilities is preferred;
ability to interact with secondary students and employers
must meet or be eligible to meet NCLB requirements for paraprofessionals;
previous experience in vocational settings is preferred
coursework in vocational education or related field preferred.
SALARY
Specialist Rate - as specified in the Agreement between the North Branford Board of Education and the North Branford Federation of Paraprofessionals.
