The School Social Worker works under the supervision of the Director of Pupil Services and the Special Education teaching staff within Region One to support students who are at risk for school failure and/or are demonstrating social/emotional/behavioral problems within the school setting. The School Social Worker will provide direct and in-direct school social work services as a related service in support of special education. The School Social Worker facilitates communication and coordination among school, home, and community providers.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Working knowledge of relevant state and federal special education laws, rules and regulations, and applicable district policies
Confidential maintenance of all records and documents
Preparation and provision of reports as requested/required
Technological literacy
Ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
Ability to consult with school personnel in developing and implementing effective social and behavioral interventions for students
Ability to be flexible and prioritize activities/demands
Sensitivity to and awareness of students' needs
Knowledge of community resources and systems available to assist students and their families
Positive human relations/respect for colleagues and all constituents
Carry out other responsibilities in assistance of students/staff as assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Current CSDE Certification in School Social Work
Successful experience working with adolescents with social/emotional/behavioral disabilities
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The Region One School District is located in the northwest corner of CT and is comprised of seven schools (six elementary and one high school).
SALARY:
Commensurate with education and experience
