Qualifications: Skills and knowledge required would generally be acquired with a high school education and some experience working with children or adults with disabilities, the ability to lift up to 40 lbs. without assistance, and eligible for a public service license.
Reports to: Head Teacher, FVTA Program
Job Goal: To support special education students in the classroom and on internship sites through modeling, training, fading, and data collection.
Schedule: 6.5 hours per day, school year

Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist students 1 to 1 or in a small group to complete work
Break down tasks as necessary
Model tasks as necessary
Provide feedback
Provide assisted practice
Fade
Collect data related to performance
Assist with the preparation of classroom materials.
Participate in small group experiences with students as needed (Oakhill, Best Buddy Coordinator.)
Assist students and staff with classroom maintenance.
Assist with hands-on, practical academic instruction.
Assist in community and social training in the community by attending Community Trips.
Participate in health and fitness training with students.
Maintain a public service license and drive a school van as needed.
Accompany students to job-site internships on and off campus and assist students with job tasks that may include pushing, pulling, lifting (up to 40 lbs. without assistance), walking, standing, washing, operating equipment, working outdoors, and working in cool temperatures.
Make contact with the on-site supervisor.
Have knowledge of and be able to perform all tasks required for students to complete.
List skills required for task completion.
Break down tasks as necessary, model skills, provide assisted practice, and provide reinforcement and re-direction.
Fade as students increase skill and performance level on the job site.
Obtain normative data for job tasks.
Record observations and note progress on job-site rubrics.
Assist with lifting, toileting, and basic first aid as required for individual students as needed.
Participate in FVTA staff meetings and training sessions.
Perform other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the administrator or supervisor.
EVALUATION: The performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the Board’s policy on the evaluation of non-certified Personnel.
Salary: $26.64 per hour/ FPSEU contract, dependent upon experience
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 188-day work year (180 student days, 8 holidays) Follows the Simsbury School Calendar. Work Hours: 6.5 hours per day plus unpaid 30-minute lunch. Salary negotiated between the collective bargaining agreement between the Farmington FPSEU and the Board of Education.
