Job Description:
LOCATIONS: Newtown / Danbury
STARTING DATE: Immediately
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Report to the Transition Coordinator and Supervisor of Pupil Services
Support and supervise students (18 to 22-year-olds) individually and/or in small groups in the classroom and in community vocational worksites
Under the direction of the Special Education / Transition Coordinator, implement and support student needs within the community and daily functional living skills
Teach and continually evaluate student skills and abilities at worksites and assist with appropriate learning strategies when necessary
Consistently work to improve student independence
Maintain progress notes and assess the level of performance both in the community, worksite, and/or classroom
Drive Program vehicle (school transit van with up to 15 seating capacity) for morning or afternoon home/school pickup/drop off or during the day in the community when required
Maintain strict confidentiality at all times
QUALIFICATIONS:
College degree in education, psychology, human services, or related field preferred
In lieu of a degree, a minimum of three (3) years of related experience working in special education, vocational, or life skills programs or directly with individuals with intellectual or other disabilities is required
Valid CT driver’s license
Already possess or agree to obtain CT “V” driving endorsement after employment acceptance. If the endorsement is to be pursued, financial reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses will be provided and paid time given for training and/or medical appointments required by DMV
Must be able to work harmoniously with others to encourage and enhance student performance and the Team process
REMUNERATION: $21.23 / Hour
