Job Description:

1.0 Special Education Teacher needed for a Specialized Program at Harborside Middle School.

  
Current CT Special Education certification (165 or 065) required.

Special Education Teacher Job Duties 

 
Provide individualized instruction in accordance with students' Individual Education Plans 

Develop Individual Education Plans in compliance with state and federal requirements 

Conduct assessments to determine students' eligibility for special education and develop appropriate programs 

Collaborate with general education teachers, related services staff, and school personnel to design individualized student programs 

Supervise and provide professional learning for paraeducators

Communicate effectively with school staff, families, and outside providers 

Facilitate Planning and Placement Team meetings, building or department committees as assigned 

Previous experience with Discrete Trial Instruction (DTI) preferred

Knowledge of and experience teaching students with Autism Spectrum Disorders and/or previous experience teaching in a specialized program preferred

Experience collecting student data, monitoring progress toward students’ IEP goals/objectives, implementing Behavior Intervention Plans, and collaborating with District Behavior Analyst(s)

Ensure students receive an appropriate educational program in their least restrictive environment
