Social Worker

 

Position Title: Social Worker

Location: Watertown Public Schools:  District-Wide Position

Position Reports To: Interim Director of Special Education and Pupil Personnel Services, Interim 

Director of Curriculum and Instruction for General and Special Education 

and Building Administrators

Required Certifications & Qualifications

  • Social Work or Counseling or School Psychologist Certification 071; 070; 068

  • Physical Management Training (PMT), Restorative Practices, PBIS, and De Escalation Training preferred for position

  • An earned Bachelor's and Master's Degree at an accredited college or university

Essential Skills, Knowledge Performance Abilities

  • Successful experience working with children at risk

  • Counsels individual students as needed and as required by students’ Individualized Education Plans or Section 504 Plans

  • Provides advice and support to teachers in creating curricula and providing instruction that supports the social and emotional health of the students and the school

  • Provides advice and support to staff and parents to address the impact of emotional difficulties on student learning

  • Assist teachers, parents and students in resolving non-academic student issues in the school, such as behavioral problems.

  • Knowledge of dispute resolution techniques and ability to engage in dispute resolution.

  • Knowledge of student behavior management techniques.

  • Observes and assesses students

  • Leads discussions among students on issues related to students’ behavior, emotional health, and social skills

  • Regularly communicates with families about strategies to support their child at home and school, and the resources available within the school and broader community

  • Builds relationships with community organizations that provide health, mental health, recreation, and social support for families and make referrals for families as necessary

  • Serves as a resource for families on issues in the home that impact student success at school

  • Facilitates parent workshops focused on supporting families with mental health

Additional Duties

Perform all other duties that may be assigned by the Interim Director of Special Education and Pupil Personnel Services, Interim Director of Curriculum and Instruction for General and Special Education and Building Administrators    

Terms of Employment

Based on the working agreement between the Watertown Board of Education and the Watertown Educators Association

Work Schedule

Monday - Friday, based on school hours
