LEARN, southeastern Connecticut's Regional Educational Service Center, invites candidates to apply for a full-time Youth Mental Health Navigator opening.
General Scope of Responsibilities
The Youth Mental Health Navigator will provide navigation services by proactively collaborating with caregivers, school staff, and local mental and physical health providers to help families access appropriate community resources to support improved mental health outcomes and well-being for youth.
Relationship within the Organization
The Youth Mental Health Navigator is part of the Office of Student Support Services and will report to the Director of Behavior Services and the Nursing Supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Connect with and follow up with school staff, caregivers, and local agencies to ensure services are appropriate, accessible, and effective.
- Collaborate with school staff and caregivers regarding youth who need community mental health resources and services.
- Support families in navigating the mental health system to ensure youth successfully get connected and stay connected to timely, quality, and culturally competent services.
- Collaborate with schools, families, and community organizations to develop prevention programs targeting substance use in youth.
- Identify and address systemic barriers to mental health and substance use disorder prevention services.
- Build partnerships with local agencies and health providers to coordinate comprehensive prevention and support networks.
- Maintain effective and professional relationships with local mental health providers and relevant professionals, in support of youth experiencing social and emotional concerns.
- As time permits and at program discretion – participate in community meetings regarding youth mental health, substance use, and other topics; present locally and regionally about a variety of topics including this program, youth mental health, and anything related to reducing mental health stigma and/or providing psychoeducation.
Work Requirements
- Flexible work location and schedule, prioritizing time in public schools and working primarily during business/school hours.
- 12 month contract
- Local and state-wide travel as part of service delivery.
- Some lifting and movement of materials and/or equipment typically <50 lbs.
Experience, Knowledge, and Training
- Master’s Degree in Social Work or Public Health preferred, with active licensure. Others with experience in mental health fields will be considered.
