Job Description:

Are you a creative and innovative teacher?  Does the idea of developing a program collaboratively excite you?  Are you interested in changing the lives for a small group of students with a team of educators using integrated, project-based learning?  If so, please consider working with us to further develop the Genesis grades 7-12 alternative program for the Wilton Public Schools.  We are looking for a team of extraordinary educators/creators/leaders. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current State Certification in appropriate content area
  • Master’s Degree is highly recommended
  • Previous teaching experience is preferred

 

REPORTS TO: Principal(s), Assistant Principal(s) or District Administrator

 

JOB GOAL: To plan, implement, evaluate, and adjust instruction for a diverse group of students in the appropriate content area 



PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Professional Knowledge: 

  • Demonstrates expertise in the content area 
  • Demonstrates an understanding of how students learn and grow 
  • Develops lessons that allow students to construct and apply knowledge 
  • Develops units that allow for multiple access points and include varied instructional strategies based on individual differences in student knowledge, achievement, and need
  • Designs and administers assessments to monitor student progress
  • Analyzes multiple forms of assessment data and adapts instruction accordingly
  • Engages with colleagues to reflect on practice and make refinements to instruction, assessment, and lesson design
  • Implements district-approved curriculum
  • Designs innovative curriculum in accordance with district procedures
  • Maintains appropriate records of student attendance and progress; prepares report cards, interim and final grades as appropriate

 

Professional Responsibilities: 

  • Participates in regular meetings including: staff meetings, Instructional Effectiveness Team (IET) meetings, department and/or grade level meetings, and district meetings
  • Provides supervision in activities both in and out of the classroom during the regular school day
  • Reports to work and follows established work hours/work week
  • Engages parents and the community in the learning process through ongoing two-way communication
  • Collaborates with other staff (certified and non-certified) to support students; shares knowledge and resources with others
  • Partners with others to solve problems faced by students or the school community 
  • Participates in PPT, 504, and/or other parent meetings
  • Models the importance of social responsibility
  • Demonstrates the ability to use technology effectively; engages in ongoing professional learning to learn new technological tools 
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the superintendent of schools or his/her designee



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

Teachers regularly engage in talking, hearing, reading, writing, operating technology, sitting, standing, reaching up and down with arms, lifting or moving objects that weigh up to 10 pounds

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 month work year; salary in accordance with WEA contract



EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Wilton Teacher Evaluation and Development Plan.
