SEVERAL POSITIONS AVAILABLE - Positions available at all schools Grades PK-12

Per CSDE portal.ct.gov/SDE/Paraeducator/Paraeducator-Information-and-Resources, applicants must have:

  • Earned a secondary school diploma, or its equivalent.
  • Completed 2 years of study at an institution of higher education, OR Earned an Associate’s Degree (or higher), OR Achieve at least a score of 457 on the ETS ParaPro Assessment to:
    Demonstrate knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing in:
    • Reading, writing, and mathematics;
    • Reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness
  • Hours per Regular School Day:  7.0 hour shift per regular, in-person school day (6.5 paid hours; 0.5 unpaid lunch break; no additional breaks)
  • Payrate: $18.42 per hour after successful completion of 60 work day probationary period* ($16.58 per hour during probationary period)
  • Medical Benefits, Paid Leave Time (Sick, Personal, Vacation), Paid Holidays:  After probationary period and in accordance with the current agreement between the Thomaston Board of Education and the AFSCME employees)

The Thomaston Public Schools district is located in Thomaston, Connecticut which encompasses a land area of 12 square miles and has a population of 7,922.  The Town is 10 miles south of Torrington, 23 miles west of Hartford and is bordered by Waterbury, Plymouth, Harwinton, Litchfield, and Watertown.  Thomaston is a residential community that consists predominantly of single-family homes affordable across a broad range of income levels.  Residents are served by Thomaston's diversified economic base which includes many small and medium-sized manufacturers offering opportunities to its students through sound annual budgets, diverse course offerings, and internship/exploration programs.
