Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY AND PURPOSE: The Educational Assistant is a 10-month classified position intended to assist the classroom teacher in performing assigned tasks. The tasks must not supplant or infringe upon the teacher’s instructional responsibilities. The teacher and the educational assistant will review and fully understand the roles, responsibilities, and expectations of each respective position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
Assists small groups of students in various subject areas under the supervision of the classroom teacher.
Reinforces skills taught by the classroom teacher including the use of discrete trial instruction, ABA principles and behavior reinforcement/ management techniques.
Assists students (individually or in small groups )with academic tasks under the supervision of the classroom teacher.
Assists teachers in preparing the classroom for instruction, gathering resources, and supplementary materials.
Assists teachers with routine tasks such as: helping students with assistive devices and equipment; assisting during field trips and other special events during assigned work hours; assisting teacher and/or assigned student with fire drills or emergencies.
Assists teachers in encouraging students to work independently, to understand and follow directions and rules, and to locate and use appropriate materials.
Assists identified students as needed with toileting, independent living skills, 1:1 supervision and/ or other safety supports.
Delivers teacher planned and directed academic instruction.
Performs other instructional activities as assigned during work hours.
Responsible to engage restraint and seclusion emergency procedures as directed or an emergent situation requires it.

Qualifications:
Must have completed at least 60 semester hours of college credit, or earned at least an Associate’s Degree, or successfully passed the Parapro exam. Behavior management experience preferred.
