Special Education Teacher
New Canaan High School
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the special education administrator, the special education teacher works alongside a skilled team of professionals, including related service personnel and teaching assistants, to develop and provide specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with complex learning profiles including Autism, Down Syndrome, and Intellectual Disabilities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide direct instruction to students requiring special education
Participate in the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEP) and Behavior Management Plans
Prepare progress reports and year-end evaluations, administer pre-tests and post-tests as appropriate and necessary
Work with team to conduct multidisciplinary evaluations as appropriate
Maintain appropriate student records, IEPs, data, and evaluation reports on assigned students
Coordinate schedules of students receiving special education instruction with other staff members and administration
Coordinates and manages Teaching Assistants’ responsibilities and schedules
Maintain appropriate and on-going communication with administration, staff, parents/guardians
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Holds, or is eligible for, Connecticut State Certification as a Special Education Teacher
Experience with students of varied abilities, including students on the Autism spectrum
Experience with the collection and analysis of data to inform instruction
