SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER JOB DESCRIPTION
SUMMARY:
The Special Education Teacher develops and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique
needs of students with disabilities. Evaluates and assesses student progress on instructional
objectives, follows state-mandated due process procedures and functions as the IEP Case
Manager to assigned students. The special education teacher provides a safe and optimal learning
environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Complete triennial evaluations for individual students using a variety of assessment
methods.
• Participate as a member of the Planning and Placement Team (PPT).
• Develop and implement an annual Individualized Education Program (IEP) in developing
the Present Levels of Educational Performance, appropriate goals, and objectives, as well
as tracking progress through data collection.
• Employ various teaching strategies, methods, and principles of learning to assist students
in achieving their IEP goals.
• Effectively manage the classroom and student behavior.
• Collaboration and implementation of Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior
Intervention Plans.
• Collaborate and consult with educational professionals and community service providers.
• Provides specialized instruction as well as provides accommodations/modifications for
students with disabilities.
• Collaborates with general education teachers regarding students with disabilities.
• Conducts assessments, testing and diagnostic evaluations of students for the purpose of
identifying learning issues, social-behavioral needs and recommending courses of action
or corrective procedures to overcome issues and maximize learning.
• Facilitates parent placement team (PPT) meetings and assists in developing Individual
Education Plans ("IEP") for students.
• Assists students and teaching staff in implementing students' IEP's and behavior
management plan.
• Coordinates with outside agencies, organizations and institutions, including state and
federal authorities as needed.
• Coordinates with administrators and other teaching staff members to ascertain individual
students' abilities and needs.
• Continues to acquire special knowledge and learn of current developments in the
educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by
conducting research, and by maintaining professional relationships with members of
institutions of higher learning and the business community.
• Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping and
providing student information to prospective colleges and employers, as required by
district procedures and applicable laws.
• Facilitates family engagement in students' education and ensures effective
communication with students and parents.
• Selects and requisitions appropriate books, aids and other supplies and equipment and
maintains inventory records.
• Design, revise and maintain instructional programs developed from student IEP.
• Demonstrate team leadership skills (monitoring, assigning and directing) for
paraprofessionals.
• Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office
administrators as designated by the Director of Student Services.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Current CT Special Education Teacher certification is required (065,165)
• Experience is preferred but not required
• Knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of special education

LONG TERM SUB SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER WOODSIDE INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL

Cromwell Public Schools is looking for a Long Term Sub Special Education Teacher for Woodside Intermediate School (grades 3-5). Qualifications: Special Education certification or the ability to get a DSAP or special permit. Compensation: $270.67 per day, eligible to health benefits and sick/personal time. Position starts late October/early November 2024 until approximately April 21, 2025.

Qualifications: Special Education certification or the ability to get a DSAP or special permit. Compensation: $270.67 per day, eligible to health benefits and sick/personal time. Position starts late October and the duration is not yet determined.
