Location:
Emma Hart Willard Elementary School
Under the direct supervision of a certified special education teacher, will supervise and work with students individually and in groups, provide instruction, prepare materials, be responsible for implementing and monitoring ongoing behavior management systems, perform assigned classroom tasks, supervise students in classrooms, in hallways and during lunch period. Paraeducator may participate in a liaison role with general and special education teachers, administrators, parents and perhaps others.
Qualifications:
Must have a high school diploma and have completed at least two years of full time study at an institution of higher education or obtained an Associates degree or successfully completed the Para Pro Assessment.
Ability to work well with children with behavior difficulties
Ability to work well with others in a cooperative manner
Good communication skills
Evidence of initiative, independence, adaptability and efficiency
General understanding of child growth and development and child behavior characteristics
Good language skills including English usage, punctuation, spelling and grammar
General understanding of the purposes and goals of public education
Specific subject area content as may be required by the particular job assignment
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate
Reports To:
The Director of Pupil Personnel Services.
Evaluation:
The immediate supervisor develops specific duties for each Paraeducator updating them according to needs.
Evaluation of job performance is a continuous process designed to improve the quality of work performed. A formal evaluation is completed by the immediate supervisor at the completion of the probationary period, on an annual basis, and more frequently as determined by the supervisor.

Terms of Employment:
Position to begin as soon as possible. Salary and benefits in accordance with the negotiated agreement between the Berlin Board of Education and Local 1303-276 of Council 4 AFSCME, AFL-CIO; $21.97 per hour.
