ANTICIPATED POSITIONS: 1.0 Special Education Teacher HES - Long Term Substitute (Start Date 12/16/2024 – end of the 24-25 school year.)
QUALIFICATIONS: CT Certification Required
The Hebron Board of Education has an anticipated Special Education Teacher Long Term Substitute opening at Hebron Elementary School, starting December 16, 2024 through the remainder of the 24-25 school year. This position has the potential of becoming a permanent position.
Position Summary:
Provides an appropriate and challenging instructional program to all students requiring specialized support through an Individualized Education Program (IEP) ; serves as a guide and model to the student learning process; implements elements of the student assessment and instructional program consistent with grade level, school and district programs, practices and policies; develops and maintains a learning environment that governs and guides positive student conduct; communicates regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress; interacts professionally with teachers and other school staff, students, parents/guardians, central office staff and the public; responsible for student records management and student data collection; knowledge of Board of Education/District policies and procedures.
Supervision/Evaluation: Receives general supervision and performance evaluation from Principal and Director of Educational Services
Duties and Responsibilities:
Demonstrate knowledge and application of subject matter and grade level curriculum
Serve as Case Manager for identified students assigned to case load
Provide development, oversight and management of implementation of student Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
Provide accurate and timely progress updates regarding student accomplishment of IEP goals and objectives
Comply with all Federal and State special education statutes and regulations pertaining to identified students; ensure implementation of all mandated timelines
Assume primary responsibility in reporting all student seclusion and restraint incidents
Participate in Planning and Placement Team (PPT) meetings, student support team and any other meetings representing assigned students when special education knowledge and expertise is required
Engage in ongoing professional development and/or training to maintain subject matter knowledge and explore best practices
Effectively manage social, behavioral and emotional needs of students
Establish and maintain on-going, informative and open communication with parents/guardians regarding students; establish and maintain positive rapport with students
Maintain accurate records, tests, reports and additional data as required by Connecticut Statues and Regulations and Board of Education Policies
Coordinate and ensure implantation of related services consistent with IEP goals and objectives
Establish and maintain a learning environment that is conducive to effective teaching and learning; plan and implement use of effective classroom time in accordance with the grade level and school schedule
Coordinate delivery of IEP goals and objectives with general education teachers
Oversee work of paraprofessionals assigned to caseloads through effective communication, support and feedback; participate, as appropriate, in annual paraprofessional performance evaluation process
Develop and sustain productive partnerships with colleagues when engaged in a co-teaching model
Serve as resource to general education teachers, as appropriate
Recommend and conduct student assessments (both formative and summative) to determine continuing student special education eligibility and student progress
Work collaboratively with colleagues, administrative and Central Office staff in planning for and assessing impact and viability of future assessments appropriate for special education students
Demonstrate understanding of current application and potential application of technology in implementation of IEP goals and objectives
Attend building-based/district-wide special education team meetings
Collaborate with community partnerships impacting special education students (i.e. AHM)
Adhere to professional standards for teachers as outlined by the Connecticut State Board of Education and Board of Education policies and regulations
Maintain confidentiality regarding personal/student and family information
Implement school related duties such as student supervision, appropriate record-keeping tasks and other duties consistent with professional requirements and expectations
Assist in annual budget development process and oversight of approved school and district budgets pertaining to special education/related services programs
Perform other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Principal and/or Director of Educational Services
Qualifications:
Current Connecticut Teacher Certification (Special Education 165) required; additional Connecticut Teacher Certification in Elementary Education desired
Expertise in student assessment, data analysis, progress monitoring, and appropriate special education content
Excellent speaking and writing communication skills
Excellent interpersonal skills
Physical Requirements:
Must have the physical ability to execute the full performance of duties for the position, including but not limited to: reaching, some lifting, standing, walking, carrying, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, sitting, and/or crawling.

SALARY: $113.30 per day for the initial 40 days of school, and $51,634-$100,515 range based on Education/Experience/2023-2027 Contract after the 40th day, retro paid to 12/16/24.
