Essential Job Functions: A Special Education Teacher will perform essential job functions as detailed below:
Instruction
• Responsible for introducing and teaching curriculum
• Responsible for adapting curriculum relevant to students' needs
• Utilizes appropriate resources and instructional materials
• Implements research-based interventions
• Helps design and implement inclusion opportunities
• Collects data and appropriate work samples via Catalyst
• Programs Catalyst and monitors implementation and student progress on a regular basis
• Plan with team members programs designed to meet students' specific needs
• Design individual and group lessons
• Supervise 1:1 and assist in training instructional staff in areas of instruction and curriculum development
• Work closely as part of a transdisciplinary team with all student providers
• Observe and provide feedback to staff
• Include appropriate technology in student plans and lessons to support communication and learning
SpecialEducationResponsibilities
• Participates in each student's PPT meeting convened by the student's school district regarding the student
• Develops and implements IEPs with measurable goals which are appropriate to students' needs
• Completes quarterly progress reports
• Completes play lists on Catalyst evidencing blended subject area planning
• Complete all special education paperwork accurately, according to regulations and on time
• Collaborates with BCBA/Chief Administrator to ensure staff are following behavior intervention plans developed by BCBA's with fidelity. Communicate with BCBA team when concerns, lack of progress or questions arise
• Works with behavior analytic staff to be sure that graphing, data sheet development, and curriculum materials are developed and completed in a timely manner
• Summarizes students' data to develop progress reports
• Assists in the selection and distribution of new resources, materials, supplies and information
• Maintain communication with Related Services Providers
• Administer diagnostic assessments as needed
• Write in-depth triennial reports
• Demonstrate sensitivity to and respect for the needs and feelings of all students while utilizing patience, empathy and enthusiasm
• Provide for students' individual needs in the areas of health and safety, as well as the growth and progress of students; emotionally, socially, academically and physically within the school environment
• Ensure health information related to allergies, seizures and safety procedures is communicated to all appropriate staff members
• Understands, imparts, and ensures adherence to all CDC guidelines, cleaning, disinfecting, social distancing, maximum space capacities by staff under your supervision.
• Develops student schedules using the IEP Service Delivery page as a basis for development
Work Environment
• Maintain a safe, neat, organized and motivating classroom/school environment
• Adjust the physical environment to accommodate changing student needs
• Monitor attendance and timeliness of classroom's Instructional Assistants and ABA Instructors
• Ensure posted visuals and organized classroom space
Communication:
• Coordinate the development of progress reports and codes from all service providers
• Provide ongoing consultation concerning students' educational progress
• Participate in parent-teacher conferences
• Foster positive staff-parent relations and good home-school communication
• Communicate effectively with Education Director and Chief Administrator
• Coordinate and schedule all student services
ProfessionalDevelopment:
• Develop and/or implement appropriate educational techniques based on current educational practices and/or research
• Familiarize oneself with current educational needs, trends, and research
• Maintain professional requirements for state certification (CEUs)
• Attend in-house and outside trainings related to their field
Evaluation:
• Evaluate pupil progress via criterion referenced and norm referenced assessments
• Evaluate progress by reviewing Catalyst Data, student observations and discussion with other professional staff
• Adjust curriculum to fit needs
• Administer state testing
Required Qualifications:
• Comprehensive Special Education (CT 165), Ongoing completion of TEAM for beginning teachers
• Must be able to lift/push/pull/move up to 60 lbs.
• Maintains current Safety Care, First Aid, CPR training certificates
• Successful completion of a background check
