JOB SUMMARY:
Are you looking to apply your skills as part of a collaborative team of people all sharing the mutual passion to better the lives of each student we serve? Then consider applying for a School Social Worker position at Connecticut Coastal Academy! Connecticut Coastal Academy is a state approved, private special education program for students in Grade 6 to age 22. Your role will entail providing a full range of clinical services to students who need social/emotional support. Provide individual, group, and family clinical interventions and case management to students and their families based on the students’ Individualized Education Plans and other identified clinical concerns. We work to improve our students’ social and psychological functioning as well as maximize their academic functioning. As a key member of our collaborative team, the successful candidate will partner with school administrators and teachers to develop and implement plans that provide specialized support for selected students throughout the course of the school year. We recognize and nurture the gifts of students with intellectual, social/emotional, and learning differences. We highlight skill building not just in the classroom but also skills that will benefit them post graduation to ensure success in their adult lives.

EXAMPLES OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide individual counseling to a small caseload of students
  • Participate in the development of school programming and social emotional curriculum building
  • Provide crisis management in the form of risk assessments, de-escalation, and safety planning 
  • Facilitate weekly Social Emotional Learning (SEL) classes to cohorts of students
  • Communicate and collaborate with parents, teachers, administrators, and outside providers
  • Provide case management to students and their families including making referrals and coordinating with outside treatment providers and referring families to community support services as needed
  • Maintain accurate case files and reports to track student changes and progress 
  • Assist students in transition planning for post graduation
  • Participate in the Individual Education Plan (IEP) process as necessary including advocacy, goal planning, and goal implementation 


QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s Degree in Social Work required
Certification/Licensure: MFT, LMSW working toward LCSW, or LCSW
Minimum 2 years experience working in a clinical setting
Ability to work collaboratively as a team member with fellow co-workers and agency staff of various disciplines
Knowledge of child development, childhood mental health, and special educations services
Excellent interpersonal communication skills
Compassionate and approachable personality
Strong sense of discretion and professionalism
