Job Description:

DEPARTMENT: CURRENTLY AT GREENE-HILLS K-8
 
REPORTS TO: SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER
 
SUMMARY: Assist in small group and individual pupil instruction.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Other duties may be assigned.
Assist students with instruction under the direction of the special education teacher.
Assist teacher in maintaining discipline.
Assist teacher with instructional activities.
Escort students from room to room.
Toileting students is sometimes required.
Involves work with both special education and regular students.
Assist teaching staff in the implementation of IEP.
Supervise students while they are at recess and lunch.
Assist students with classroom assignments.
Copy materials for instructional purposes.
Assist teacher in filing material and preparing all necessary paperwork.
Alert teachers to problems that may be observed.
May require supporting with toileting of students

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:  TO PERFORM THIS JOB SUCCESSFULLY, AN INDIVIDUAL MUST BE ABLE TO PERFORM EACH ESSENTIAL DUTY SATISFACTORILY.  THE REQUIREMENTS LISTED BELOW ARE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND/OR ABILITY REQUIRED.  REASONABLE ACCOMMODATIONS MAY BE MADE TO ENABLE INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS. 
 
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or General Education Degree. Two years of college credit OR hold an associate’s (or higher) degree; OR successful completion of a paraprofessional assessment which assesses content knowledge in mathematics, reading and writing and an understanding of how to assist in the instruction of these topics (Parapro Assessment).
 
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
 
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
 
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Basic knowledge and experience with job related computer hardware and software applications.
 
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
 
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.  Ability to perform duties with awareness of district requirements and Board of Education policies.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, and talk or hear.  The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  The employee must be able to push items of fifty (50) pounds, such as pushing children on a bike or wheelchair or moving/rearranging furniture.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds.   When doing heavier lifting, the employee should do so with assistance.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and peripheral vision.

The noise level in the work environment is typical of classrooms having school children and is a standard acceptable level for this environment.  This employee will work throughout the school building, on school grounds and occasionally off campus.  The paraprofessional is responsible for the safety and well being of students in his/her charge
 

Work Hours:  6.5 hours per day  (8:00am to 3:00pm)
