Job Description:
Greenwich Public Schools is seeking a special education teacher of the visually impaired effective July 1, 2024.
Position Description
Develop and provide specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students who are blind or who have vision impairments
Evaluate and assess student progress against instructional objectives
Follow State-mandated compliance procedures and function as the IEP case manager to assigned students
Responsibilities
Complete triennial evaluations for individual students using a variety of assessment methods
Participate as a member of the Planning and Placement Team (PPT)
Develop and implement annual Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in developing the Present Levels of Educational Performance, appropriate goals, and objectives
Employ various teaching strategies, methods, and principles of learning specific to students who are blind or visually impaired, to assist them in accessing the general education curriculum and school activities, as well as in achieving their IEP goals
Effectively manage the classroom and student behavior
Collaborate and consult with educational professionals and community service providers
Qualifications
Current CT Special Education Teacher certification, or certifiability, as a special education teacher (#165 or equivalent) is required
Experience is preferred but not required
Knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of special education
Knowledge of assistive technology specific to the needs of students who are blind or visually impaired
