Job Description:

The Light House is looking for a certified Highschool Special Education teacher to start a full time, 12-month position. Experience working with students with diverse and challenging needs is required; experience with supervising paraprofessionals is preferred. Responsible for delivery of academic and behavioral instruction, as well as pre-vocational and social experiences in the community.

The ideal candidate will be able to foster independence across many settings as well as be a self-starter, goal driven and a creative thinker and planner.

Experience needed:

  • Connecticut K-12 Special Education Certificate
  • Experience working with students who have behavioral challenges and significant intellectual and developmental delays

Function:

  • To provide comprehensive specialized instruction to students in the High School program ages 14-18
  • Instruction will be provided across all environments including the classroom, community, building and job sites
  • To serve as a teacher for High School aged special needs students
  • To serve as a teacher who supervises the delivery of special education service
  • Organizes and provides developmentally appropriate special education programs for assigned students

Supervises:

  • The teacher will supervise the non-certified staff (paraprofessionals) and students assigned to his/her special education programs as well as a Teaching Assistant
