Position: 6th Grade Special Education Teacher

Location: HarBur Middle School

Reports to: Building Principal and Director of Student Services

Starting Date: With the commencement of the 2024-2025 school year

 

We are seeking a highly motivated, collaborative Special Education Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for collaborating and consulting with the 6th-grade team of teachers to provide guidance and support, utilizing Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to design and implement inclusive lessons. The role also involves providing push-in support for students, delivering direct instruction in IEP goals and objectives, transition activities, and executive functioning skills, writing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and providing case management.

Responsibilities:

Collaborate and consult with the 6th grade teaching team to integrate UDL principles in lesson planning and delivery, ensuring accessibility and engagement for all students.

Provide push-in support in the general education classroom to assist all students with accessing the curriculum and participating fully in class activities.

Conduct academic lab(s) focused on the direct teaching of IEP goals and objectives and executive functioning skills, helping students develop strategies for organization, time management, and self-regulation.

Write and implement comprehensive IEPs that address the individual needs and goals of each student, in collaboration with parents, student, and other professionals.

Manage caseloads effectively, ensuring timely communication and coordination with parents, teachers, and support staff.

Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in special education and inclusive teaching strategies.

Qualifications:             

 

The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge and experience in a combination of the following areas:

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Special Education or a related field.

Valid teaching certification in Special Education.

Experience and passion for working with middle school students, particularly in a 6th grade setting.

Strong knowledge of UDL, executive functioning skills, and IEP development and implementation.

Excellent collaboration, communication, and organizational skills.

A commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
