POSITION:  OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST

 

ABOUT US:  Regional School District No. 1 is located in the northwest corner of Connecticut and serves the towns of Canaan (Falls Village), Cornwall, Kent, North Canaan, Salisbury, and Sharon.  RSD1 was the first regional school district in CT, and it is unique in that it services seven different school districts, six elementary schools, and one regional high school.  Each of the towns in the region has its own K-8 elementary school governed by an autonomous board of education.

JOB SUMMARY:  Occupational therapy is an educational support service that focuses on removing barriers from students’ ability to learn, helping students develop skills that increase their independence in the school environment, and educating school personnel about the different considerations required for students with disabilities.  The occupational therapist evaluates, assesses, and accommodates the functional abilities of students in school classrooms, hallways, and other designated areas, including community facilities and vocational settings.  The intent must always be educationally relevant.

Occupational therapy is a related service for eligible students whose disability requires but is not limited to, the following:  improving, developing, or restoring functions impaired or lost through illness, injury, or deprivation; improving the ability to perform tasks for independent functioning when functions are impaired or lost; and preventing, through early intervention, initial or further impairment or loss of function.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

 

Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in occupational therapy from a school accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association.

Licensed to practice occupational therapy through the Dept. of Public Health in CT.

Current certification from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy.
