Job Description:

POSITION TITLE:   CLINICAL SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKER - BreakThrough Program - Grade K-5

LOCATION:             Ivy Drive School, Gr. K-5

REPORTS TO:         DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL SERVICES/SCHOOL PRINCIPAL

SUMMARY:   To help students resolve personal, emotional, and social problems that interfere with their adjustment to school and their capacity to enjoy the fullest benefits of the education offered them.  To develop a Student and Family Assistance Center (SFAC).

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Other duties may be assigned as necessary 

 

 

Perform casework service with individual students to correct those personal, social or emotional mal-adjustments related to their educational and social progress.

Perform casework service with parents to increase the parents’ understanding, their constructive participation in resolving their child’s problems, and their knowledge and use of appropriate resources available.

Consult and collaborate with other school personnel in gathering and giving information on a case, and in establishing and planning for respective roles in the modification of the student’s behavior.

Home visits will be a requirement of this position

Supervise the referral of students to, and serves as liaison with, outside agencies.

Serve as liaison between home and school when considerable follow-up is necessary, as in welfare cases, foster home children, and disadvantaged students.

Assist students directly toward adjustment to school.

Collect and organize data for presentation and keep records of cases for use by

school staff members and outside agencies when appropriate.

Complete all necessary paperwork, forms and referrals.

Schedule and facilitate weekly team meetings.  Maintain and distribute agendas and meeting minutes.  Attend district team leader meetings to provide updates on the SFAC. team

Knowledge and experience in the PPT and EIP process.  Participate on the School Wide Leadership Team as directed.

Knowledge of the tiered intervention process, SRBI.

Fulfill supervisory responsibilities as assigned.

Maintains professional competence through in-service education provided by the district and in self-selected professional growth activities.

Serve on faculty and curriculum committees.

Serve as the team’s liaison with partnering universities and colleges.

Coordinate intern training and activities.  Develop a scope and sequence for intern supervision 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

***Candidates must have the experience and ability to supervise MSW interns, that is a crucial responsibility of this position. 

 

Supervises classroom and students (interns, volunteers and parent helpers where appropriate).  Performs general supervisory duties as scheduled and or directed.

  

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

 

Master’s Degree in Social Work.

  

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

 

Valid Connecticut Teaching Certificate.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

 

Ability to read, analyze and interpret periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and governmental regulations.  Ability to write memos, reports and correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, parents and the general public.

  

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

 

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

 

 COMPUTER SKILLS:

 

Basic knowledge and experience with standard hardware and software applications.  Ability to use computers for Email, word processing, accounting, databases and presentations.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

 

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 

Ability to apply knowledge of current research and teaching competencies to instructional programs.  Ability to plan and implement lessons based on school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.  Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents.  Skill in oral and written communication.  Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies and the code of professional responsibility for teachers.
