Job Description:

SUMMER SCHOOL COUNSELOR - CREDIT RECOVERY PROGRAM

 

This position will run from 6/24/2024 to  7/25/2024.

 

There are no benefits associated with this position.  

No phone calls please.  

 

SUMMARY/GOAL OF POSITION:

 

To support students during summer programming in the areas of academic, career and college readiness and social and emotional learning. 

 

Services to Students:

 

Plans, delivers, and evaluates school counseling interventions to help close achievement, opportunity, and attainment gaps.

 

Assists individual students and groups in the development of social skills, decision making and problem-solving skills, conflict resolution, family issues, and making healthy choices;

 

Provides responsive counseling to individual students aligned to desired student outcomes. 

 

Serves as a member of crisis intervention team;

 

Assists parents in addressing school-related problems and issues; refers students and their families, as needed, to appropriate specialists, special programs, and/or outside agencies;

Communicates and collaborates with students’ regular school counselor around student goals and summer progressAdvocates for equal access to programs and services for all students;

Provides appraisal and advisement to students in Classroom, Group, and Individual Settings.

 

Plans and coordinates relevant summer programming in relation to career, academic, and social & emotional goals of students.

 

 

 

Collaboration with School and Professional Staff

 

 

 

Facilitates the instructional process in collaboration with school and community resources;

Consults with teachers on creative, culturally responsive interventions to support struggling students including noncognitive factors affecting student success.Collaborates with teachers, school social workers, and school psychologists for optimal student success.

Consults with summer school teachers and leaders for student achievement and success

Collaborates with family members and community agencies/businesses in a school/family/community partnership for student achievement/success.

Makes referrals to appropriate community resources.

 

 

 

PROFESSIONAL:

 

Adheres to the ethical standards of state and national school counselor associations;

Adheres to the preferred practices  prescribed by state and national school counselor associations;

Implements Board of Education and school policies and rules governing student life and conduct;

Promotes and upholds district  and school goals and objectives;

Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities;

Maintains confidentiality regarding personal student and family information;

Promotes the educational program to the community and contributes to a program of positive public relations;

 

 

 

Performs other tasks and responsibilities as delegated by the summer school director

 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Eligible for School Counselor certification in CT.

Master’s degree in Counselor Education/School Counseling.

Knowledge of evidence-based research and best practices in designing, implementing, and evaluating a school counseling program and interventions including school counseling curriculum lessons, group and individual counseling, and planning/advising for all students.

Effective skills in working with all school stakeholders and community partners.

Ability to identify students with disabilities and refer for appropriate services and accommodations.

Ability to affirm and work effectively with students and other stakeholders of multiple cultural and linguistic identities.

Demonstrated professional identity/memberships in state and national school and college counseling professional organizations.

Knowledge of ACA, ASCA and NACAC professional codes of ethics for school and college counselors.

Experience in implementing and evaluating a school counseling program model such as the ASCA National Model.

Experience in advising/planning for all students, developmental school counseling curriculum lessons, group counseling, and  individual counseling.

 

 

 

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

 

Preference will be given to Milford Board of Education employees.

Prior job related experience required.

Prior summer school experience preferred.

 

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

 

Current CT Certification in one or more of the following required: 068 School Counselor, 070 School Psychologist, 071 School Social Worker
