Job Description:

MPS seeks a creative and caring special education teacher at the Milford Academy, the district’s alternative high school.  The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate their success in working with diverse student populations in achieving their educational goals and post high school planning. A high level of collaboration with the Academy team is essential in providing our students with a comprehensive high school program.  The teacher will be part of a multidisciplinary educational team to work with students and families in planning for a student’s path to graduation at the Academy.  Experience with project based learning or experiential learning is preferred.  The teacher will be supporting students with their core academic work, transition planning and activities, work experiences and develop innovative ways to help students achieve their academic goals.

CT Special Education Certification required.

The Academy is the alternative high school program for Milford Public Schools.  Our program serves a socially and academically diverse population of students from the district’s comprehensive high schools, Jonathan Law and Joseph A. Foran.  We support general and special education students as well as students with 504 accommodation plans.  Students who attend our program must apply and be accepted. Our program provides an environment for students who have not met success in the comprehensive setting and are in need of a smaller environment with a stronger focus on social emotional learning and developing relationships while maintaining high levels of academic expectation. Candidates for this position must possess strong interpersonal skills with a proven record of  meeting the academic and social needs of at-risk learners in creative ways.

Salary and Benefits per MEA Contract.
