Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) - Full-Time/Districtwide

 

TITLE: Certified Occupational Therapist Assistance (COTA)

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Completion of an occupational therapy assistant program accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA).

Current certification from National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).

Licensed to practice Occupational Therapy in the state of Connecticut.

Supervised by a licensed registered Occupational Therapist.

Prior experience as a COTA in a school setting is preferred.

 

BASIC FUNCTIONS

The COTA provides services to students with disabilities, under the supervision of a licensed/certified occupational therapist. The COTA functions as a related service provider for individual students as part of their IEP (Individual Education Plan).

 

 RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Implements and conducts safe, therapeutically appropriate individual and group therapy based on a students' Individual Education Plan (IEP).

Developments and maintains effective communication and collaboration with all team members (student, family, teachers, and other related service personnel) to represent OT needs and contribute to the development of OT-related services.

Updates goals, objectives, current levels of student functioning in CTSeds in collaboration with an OTR.

Maintains/updates appropriate student goals based on data and student progress that are identified as needs.

Travels between schools as needed in order to adequately service students.

Maintains treatment areas, equipment and supply inventory as the service plan requires.

Adapts school and classroom environment, tools, and materials as needed for student success.

Completes student observations and/or screenings to determine the need for further evaluation and/or appropriate recommendations in collaboration with an OTR.

Maintains current caseload information/student schedule and accurate treatment data.

Maintains record of services provided and completes Medicaid billing.

Completes/contributes to portions of occupational therapy evaluations, as appropriate, within scope of license, as requested by evaluating OTR.

Participates in annual/triennial IEP/PPT meetings and reports on student progress in attaining goals and objectives.

Meets with and maintains ongoing communication with supervising OTR.

Participates in policy and procedure development in collaboration with an occupational therapist, participates in in-services and training.

Regular and punctual attendance; including scheduled department meetings.

Other duties as assigned by OTR and/or department administrators.

 

REPORTS TO

Director of Pupil Personnel Services

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Ten-month year. Salary and work year to be established by the Board.

 

EVALUATION

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy for non-certified staff.

Salary: $58,515.60 per year
